The Cost of a One Year Old

Good Morning,

As it was my turn to get up with Bryson this morning, I found myself reflecting on yesterdays events and how it relates to the whole event starting August 8th of 2008. As that event draws nearer to its one year anniversary, I have to first praise God for his faithfulness and providence over the last year. We have never once had to worry about things like no food to feed Bryson, clothes to put on his back, or even where is he going to sleep tonight. We have never had to worry about how we are going to pay our bills, including mounting hospital bills. For all these things and many more, I have to say thank you to my Lord and Father.

I also knew and understood that he would need toys and other things to make his young childhood fun and developmental. Along with all the other convenience items I wanted in order to make it easier for Amanda and I to take care of him. Just recently, this even included purchasing an external hard drive in order to backup and store all of the pictures and videos we have been stacking up. Another example is a fence in order to keep him out of trouble and easier to watch. Also, we knew we wanted pictures taken every month. These are all things we had and idea that we wanted to get for both Bryson and ourselves.

However, yesterday proved that one year olds and especially one year olds that walk can cost, or shall I say, force you to spend on things completely unexpected. In our case, it was a TV remote. See we have a TV/DVD combo in our bedroom and as we found out last night, the remote does everything. There are volume, channel, open/close, stop, play/pause buttons and that's it. Let me back up...
Bryson is walking now and doing it very proficiently . Also, he is growing in height and arm length. This combo of walking, height, and arm length is a very costly combination for a baby to have. See even as I write this, he is walking around pulling things off shelves and tables. Yesterday, as I was tending to other things, Bryson happened to find our remote. Last night after we had basically turned every cover on our bed and checked every corner, we resigned to the fact that Bryson had lost it. I was curious about the cost of replacement, so I began to surf the net looking for a good deal. 30 dollars later, I had ordered a replacement remote. Checking and re-checking model numbers in order to be sure we get the right one, I clicked "buy it now." 7-10 days from now we will probably have found our original remote, but maybe that will just become another toy for our wonderful little boy.

And now I have to realize that Bryson will soon be forcing us to get or replace more and more expensive items. For the future I can only hope to minimize these expenses. Well, Amanda and Will, welcome to the world of children financing!

Keep it here boys and girls!!!!
